Dark Descent Submissions
- What is Dark Descent Submissions?
Dark Descent accepts microhorror stories from both subscribers and non-subscribers for potential publication in Whispers From Beyond.
- Who can submit?
Anyone can submit a microhorror story, regardless of whether they are a Dark Descent subscriber or member.
- What type of stories are accepted?
We accept microhorror stories that are:

- What happens after I submit?
Our editorial team reviews all submissions. If your story is accepted, it will be published in Whispers From Beyond webzine and anthology.
- Do I retain the rights to my story?
Yes! Dark Holme Publishing does not claim first rights. You retain full ownership of your work.
Anthology Submissions
- Do you accept anthology submissions?
Yes! We regularly open submissions for horror and dark fantasy anthologies. Writers can submit their work for consideration.
- Does Dark Holme Publishing claim any rights to my story?
Yes, Dark Holme Publishing holds first publishing rights for six months after the anthology's publication. During this time, your story cannot be published elsewhere (including blogs, other anthologies, or self-publishing platforms).
- What happens after the six-month period?
After six months, all rights revert back to you, and you are free to publish your story elsewhere, including in other anthologies, magazines, or personal projects.
- Can I still promote my story during the first six months?
Yes! You are encouraged to promote the anthology and your featured work. However, you cannot republish the full story elsewhere until the six-month exclusivity period ends.
- Do I need to request permission to republish my story after six months?
No, after the six-month period, you are free to use your story however you wish, without needing further approval from Dark Holme Publishing.

Design the Next Nightmare
- What is Design the Next Nightmare?
Design the Next Nightmare is an open call for artists to submit their horror-themed cover design for the final installment of the Ethereal Nightmares trilogy. The winning design will be featured on the official book cover, and the selected artist will receive a £100 prize.
- Who can participate?
This contest is open to all artists, regardless of experience level.
- What is the theme?
Designs should evoke horror and capture the essence of the Ethereal Nightmares trilogy. Your artwork should be dark, eerie, and thematically consistent with the previous two anthology covers.
- Does my design need to match a specific style?
Yes! Your artwork should align with the visual style of the first two Ethereal Nightmares anthologies. We encourage you to reference them for inspiration.
