Welcome to ShadowSpark
— ShadowSphere’s dark little corner for horror writers who just want to play.
No pressure. No votes. No rules (except keep it creepy).
Each week, we drop a short horror prompt. You take it and run—100 words, 1,000 words, haiku from hell? You choose.
📍 Prompt #1:“The town’s emergency siren goes off at 2:37 AM. Everyone else acts like it never happened.”
Write your version. Post it in the comments.

When Sirens Scream Again
The sirens screamed
In old Warsaw it seems
We all went outside
To see the Blitzkrieg
In the cloudless night sky
We blessed ourselves
With signs of the cross
But the bombing did not stop
Raining bombs in the dark
We forgot those who remained
Died those nights in the dark
During the city leveling
In three days of constant
Bombing in the dark
During daylight until only
Dust made of bones
Filled the air after
All the fires smoldering
Filled the streets with dust
Burned broken body parts
Cracked in half building bricks
Piled high like the tower of Babel
While outsiders watched
The ghosts stand outside
Every night not passing on
Just looking for their lost
Loved ones and their
Missing selves all dead
No cellars to take shelter
Cellars became oven tombs
No one left alive all died
No remains left to bury
Ashes spread out in the streets
Enslaved shot in head
Even the echos of their screams
No longer remain as memories
Mouthed regrets and threats
Stood by and watched idly by
When the sirens cried
And cried and cried
The ghosts wandered
In the streets of Warsaw
Now the ghosts of Kyiv
Wander with them
As madmen bomb
Schools all over again
Sirens blare everywhere
Everywhere sirens blare
No one hears their
Screams anymore anywhere
For they're All Dead
Broken Inside outside
Shattered window glass again
As sirens scream muting
Echos die along with them
The ghosts have returned
Haunting every unheard
Dead word and silent scream
Never heard never echoed
As the sirens scream and scream
Will the sirens ever stop
I think not I think not
