Eyes opened, chest and jaw locked, only the shape at the foot of my bed sliding closer in the deep-blue dark. Tonight, my fingers twitch, stretching towards it, and cold, dead fingers close around mine.

We easily fried a dozen eggs on the hood of the SUV. Too bad our redneck neighbour caught us, and sealed our fate by roasting us alive under the noonday sun.
