Perhaps your character is convinced someone is watching them...

Perhaps they can no longer trust their own memories...

Perhaps they're beginning to question who they really are.

Leave your readers wondering whether the horror is genuine, imagined, or something in between.

Focus on building tension through atmosphere, internal conflict and uncertainty rather than external violence.
